Vintage style ads for social media

 Funnily enough, after having posted about old ads yesterday, I saw these vintage style ads for social media on Facebook today! 

I just love how they put our modern applications in an past context and design!

As the text is quite small and hard to read, I re-wrote the text underneath each picture.

Ads that would never be allowed today

 Being a media student I'm always interested in advertisement... especially old ads!

Today I'm going to present some of my favourite old ads that would certainly never be allowed nowadays, as to their incredible sexism, racism or ethic dubiousness.

Vintage style cosmetics!

Once again my daily expedition through the World Wide Web led me to an amazing discovery!

Today I found vinatge style cosmetics sold on a DaWanda shop (for those who may know the Etsy-site, DaWanda is the same in Germany). Those are mainly soaps, lipbalms, bath oils and bodybutter, so nothing I'd essentially need... But the design is so very cute that it's really hard to resist!

Uh...What shall I say about this!? :D 

Thanks to Dr. Sheldon Cooper for this interresting insight in the clichés and stereotypes about Germans abroad ;) 
Though I wonder that - as he's so clever and terribly accurate in everything he does - he says "Bavarian" instead of using the German word "Bayer"... Amy's German is better anyways ;)

But please don't forget: Germany does not consist of Bavaria only! Outside of Bavaria...

200th anniversary of Charles Dickens' birth

 

This morning Google informed me about the event of the 200th anniversary of  Charles Dickens' birth, with this absolutely lovely google-doodle thingy. (This definitely is my favourite doodle since the one who allowed you to play pacman on the Google homepage!)

I'd like to write some statement about my favourite Dickens-work, but I've only read "Oliver Twist" and "David Copperfiled" so far. "Little Dorrit" would probably be my next reading choice.

The actual meaning of Dickens to me is that "Oliver Twist" was one of the first 19th century period films I saw in my childhood, and thus was the beginning of a long history of obsession with period films and classic novel adaptations  :)

This is one of my new obsessions/favourite period series!

Bomb Girls is a six-part Canadian series about women at work in a munitions factory during World War II... and it's really addictive! ;)


I especially love the gorgeous costumes they're wearing! This really makes me want to dress up in 40ies-style as well! hehe

Now to my new discovery:
Today I discovered this very entertaining side-scroll website with lots of background informations about the period and series!! 
I cannot stop spending my time on there instead of leraning for exams...! :S
